Dave Alegre is a storyteller. From daily family occurrences to the most lavish events, Dave is rarely without a camera in his hand. He is an avid researcher of up and coming technology as well as a perpetual student of cinematic art. As a documentarian, Dave is most interested in the experiences that have shaped people's lives and desires to re-tell those stories by capturing the emotion associated with it.
His love for art extends into personal gardening and landscaping in which he says, "Dirt is just another canvas for me to create." During downtime, gardening has inspired Dave to be more creative behind the video camera and during edits.

Here’s the story. In 1990, Dave discovered true love—with video! His very first video camera was a gift from his grandparents. Being the sentimental person he is, Dave documented every single family occasion—birthdays, holidays, get-togethers...and he even followed his sister and her date (who is now her husband) on prom night! But it wasn’t until 1994 when he created a surprise love story video for his sister’s wedding that knocked everyone’s socks off. Like a big movie premiere, it was projected onto a larger-than-life screen and guests were mesmerized.
That was just the beginning. In 1996, Dave transitioned his hobby into a full-time career and formed the company, Visionary Productions. Since video technology existed mostly for Hollywood producers with deep pockets, it was a rough start. But that didn’t stop Dave. All it took was his camcorder, a VCR and some sticky notes to create makeshift titles. Even with the limitations, Dave’s natural talent for telling stories allowed him to create memories that would put smiles on people’s faces. From 2003 to 2007, the availability of pro-equipment expanded alongside Visionary's staff and studio location. Wedding video grew in popularity as much as wedding photography. By 2003, Dave’s personal life and career took the national stage on TLC’s “A Wedding Story. ” He married his loving partner, Grace, and was soon nationally syndicated in front of 3 million people every few months over the next eight years.
The laborious non-stop work that ensued, however, continued to build and after seventeen years of grueling editing deadlines, shooting schedules and travel, the pressures of pushing the envelope eventually took its toll. Dave needed to refresh. In 2013, Dave found a new way of replenishing his energy and creativity when he thought he had exhausted it all. It was during this hiatus that he discovered his love and talent for gardening—just like his grandfather, who was a professional gardener for Norfolk State University.
Dave’s green thumb was so obvious by looking at the plush, green lawn he developed in place of the splotchy crabgrass that used to be there. Neighbors walking their dogs or driving by would occasionally stop by, ring the doorbell and ask for gardening and lawn tips. To this day, alongside his family’s support, Dave credits his recovery and re-inspiration to gardening. With the reignited drive and passion from twenty years prior, Dave transitioned the company name from Visionary Productions to GreenThumb Studios in 2016. It represents a new seed in life and his personal mission to cultivate memories and stories into people's lives.
